Laurel University was founded in 1911 and is located in Waterloo, Ontario, just an hour's drive from Toronto Pearson International Airport. Waterloo is the most prosperous area in southwestern Ontario. Due to the influence of the Great Lakes, Laurier University has a pleasant climate with warm winters and cool summers. Since 1911, it has been providing excellent teaching services to the Waterloo region of Canada under the name Waterloo Lutheran University, and was renamed Wilfrid Laurie University in 1973.

Laurie University has three libraries: the Main Building Library, Brantford Public Library, and Social Work Library, with Brantford Public Library located on the Brantford campus.

The Laurier University Library provides resources and services for the school's research, teaching, and learning. Through coordination and cooperation with other libraries in Ontario and Canada, Laurie University Library strives to more effectively meet people's information needs.
