The 2017 graduation ceremony of New Oriental International College in Canada came to a successful conclusion

New Oriental International College in Canada held a grand graduation ceremony for the class of 2017 at Hart House, a century old institution within the University of Toronto, on Tuesday, the 6th. This graduation ceremony cordially invited George Smitherman, former Vice Governor of Ontario and Chairman of the Advisory Committee of New Oriental International College in Canada, Ezio Crescenzi, former President and CEO of York School and Advisor of New Oriental International College in Canada, Peter Yuen, Chief Superintendent of the Toronto Police Department, Neil Corrigan, Co Chairman of the Toronto Chinese Community Police Council, Qian Yang, Liaison Officer of the Toronto Chinese Community Police Council, and Albrey Yeung, President of the Bank of Nova Scotia branch in Canada, as well as people from all walks of life who have been concerned about and supportive of the development of the International College. In addition, over 200 attendees including all students, faculty, alumni, and parents gathered together to witness this profound moment.

Under the strict teaching supervision of the school and the guidance of the teachers, the graduation rate of New Oriental International College in Canada has achieved new success this year. At the same time, the first batch of IB students have also successfully participated in the global unified examination and graduated. As of May 25, 2017, the admission rate of this year's fresh graduates to the University of Toronto has reached 87.12%, covering popular majors such as business, engineering, and computer science. Many students have also been accepted by the University of Waterloo, the University of British Columbia (UBC), McGill University, Queen's University, as well as other world-class universities such as the University of Edinburgh, University College London, the University of California, Irvine, and the University of Florida. The University of Toronto has consistently ranked over ten on authoritative global university rankings, with its engineering department even ranking eighth globally. The graduates (alumni) of this school in previous years continue their academic glory in these world-class universities. Many alumni even received graduate admissions from world-renowned universities in their senior years, and recently some alumni have just received admission to graduate schools. In addition, 87.73% of the students received scholarships from different universities. It is worth mentioning that in this year's Euclid Mathematics Competition, students from the school achieved their best results in the individual competition, ranking in the top 2% of all participating students in Canada. Overall, the enrollment rate for students who graduated in June is 100%. As of May 25th, on average, each graduate has received about 6.82 admission letters.


The ceremony kicked off at exactly 10am on the same day. After the solemn Canadian national anthem, the President of New Oriental International College, Huang Rongfeng, delivered the opening speech. He affirmed the outstanding achievements of the graduates, thanked the teaching team for their hard work, and instructed the students to integrate Chinese and Western cultures. He also hoped that the students would look forward to the future and become innovative and knowledge-based global elites. As the Chairman of the Advisory Committee of New Oriental International College in Canada and former Vice Governor of Ontario, George Smitherman attended the grand ceremony and delivered a speech affirming the outstanding teaching achievements of the school. He also placed high expectations and best wishes on the students. Then the teachers of each subject awarded certificates to outstanding students in their respective subjects, in recognition of their hard work and dedication.


The first batch of IB students passed the global unified examination and graduated successfully. IB teachers Leo Huang and Alex Volvoreanu presented them with graduation certificates and expressed their expectations and best wishes for their future. Subsequently, the school choir, led by Teacher Sheena, brought a visual and auditory feast to the audience.

Student representative Li Haoqian delivered a graduation speech on behalf of all graduates, summarizing their learning and life over the past year; Thank you to the teachers for their meticulous care in both academic and personal life, which has enabled every student to graduate smoothly and achieve their dream of entering prestigious universities in North America. It is worth mentioning that Arnold Chan, Vice Speaker of the Canadian Chinese Federal House of Representatives, prepared graduation congratulatory letters for every graduate. Subsequently, the president of the college, Huang Rongfeng, the president of the college, William Webster, and the chairman of the advisory committee, George Smitherman, jointly presented Arnold Chan's graduation ceremony congratulatory letter and Canadian Ontario high school graduation certificate to each graduate.
