Walking fast for 10 minutes every day can extend one year of life! The secret to easily achieving longevity over the age of 60

It is well known that regular exercise can reduce the risk of major diseases such as heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and cancer. The National Health Service (NHS) in the UK recommends that all adults should exercise daily, preferably combining muscle building and aerobic exercise, with a goal of 150 minutes per week. But according to the latest research, walking once a day for 10 minutes over the age of 60 can increase people's life expectancy by one year.

The Daily Mail reported that this new study analyzed data from over 40000 women and over 30000 men, most of whom were in their 60s. Research shows that regular walking can extend women's lifespan by nearly 11 months, while men can extend it by 16 months. In addition, increasing the length and intensity of walking can also extend lifespan. Walking for 30 minutes every day can extend women's lifespan by 16 months and men's lifespan by nearly two and a half years. And this study also suggests that without previous exercise habits, the same effect can still be achieved.

Tom Yates, a physiologist at the University of Leicester who led the study, told The Daily Mail, "We are not sure why there are gender differences, and we need to conduct more research in this field. The importance of this study is that we have a more precise impact on the benefits of exercise, which we have never seen before

The co lead author of the study, Dr. Francesco Zaccardi, said, "This study further proves that habitual daily physical activity is a powerful determinant of health and longevity." He hopes that this finding can convey health information to the public and promote a change in exercise habits for currently inactive adults, from regular small to moderate to even vigorous intensity. "We recommend that public health institutions promote exercise with a focus on brisk walking for ten minutes every day. A small change can indeed bring about significant changes
