Good news: Canada's universal free dental insurance is here! Come and see if you meet the criteria

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) provides important dental care service reimbursement opportunities for Canadian residents without dental insurance, especially those with a family net income of less than CAD 90000. This plan will help many families reduce the burden of dental care costs and ensure they receive necessary oral health services.

Who is eligible?

The prerequisites for applying for CDCP include:

The applicant and their spouse or cohabiting partner (if applicable) must file taxes in Canada and assess their family income for the previous year.

The adjusted net household income must be less than CAD 90000.

The applicant must be a tax resident of Canada.

If you are applying for your child, remember to submit only one application that includes all children under the age of 18, and only one parent or guardian will apply on behalf of the child.

Application process

Online application is very convenient, but please be careful not to submit multiple applications. Registered applicants do not need to reapply unless their dental insurance status changes. The benefits you receive will remain unchanged until June 30, 2025.

During the application process, you need to prepare the following information:

Social Insurance Number (SIN)

Date of Birth:

full name

Address and mailing address

Any dental insurance information obtained through government social programs (if applicable)

Assessment Notice for 2023 Tax Declaration (for you and your spouse or cohabitant, if applicable)

Which dental services are covered?

CDCP covers a variety of dental services, including diagnosis and prevention, restoration, and oral surgical treatment. Specific services include:

Routine dental examination

X-ray examination

Teeth cleaning and fluoride application

sealant

Dental crown restoration and pillar removal (some require prior authorization)

Removable denture service (prior authorization required)

In addition, CDCP also covers oral surgery and anesthesia services, but orthodontic treatment is expected to begin only in 2025 and is limited to coverage under strict medical needs.

How to pay?

CDCP will not cover all expenses, and if the family's net income is between 70000 and 89999 Canadian dollars, or if oral health services exceed the reimbursement limit, you may need to pay additional fees out of pocket. CDCP only reimburses dental providers and does not require applicants to pay the full amount in advance, but may incur any additional fees.
