Canadian flu peak is coming! 95% are classified as H1N1, a major disaster area in Greater Toronto

National data shows that the positive rate of influenza testing reached 21.2% last week, setting a new quarterly high and surpassing the peak of 18.7% during the 2023-24 influenza season.

According to CP24, the updated federal government health information dashboard last Friday showed 8586 flu test results for the week of February 1st, with the majority concentrated among Canadians aged 65 or older.

The positivity rate has been on the rise, with nearly 95% of cases detected as influenza A, which is the main subtype this season.

According to the database, a total of 63 new outbreaks related to influenza were recorded, with a weekly hospitalization rate of 2.4 people per 100000 population. Infobase pointed out that both indicators have been "generally stable" in recent weeks.
