Ontario will launch a one-day free pass to provincial parks on Friday

Ontario will launch a one-day free pass to provincial parks this Friday.

This initiative was announced during Healthy Parks Healthy People Day and will provide visitors with a one-day pass to the provincial park network without the need for a ticket. The usual admission fee for Ontario parks ranges from 9 to 21 yuan per vehicle.

Andrea Khanjin, the Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks of Ontario, stated in a press release released on Monday: I invite all Ontario residents to use this free pass to visit Ontario Parks, which is an opportunity to immerse themselves in the joy and wonder of exploring nature. Whether you want to exercise or spend a fun and affordable day with your family, I hope this free day will give more people the opportunity to explore everything the local provincial park has to offer.

Ontario Provincial Parks have introduced the option of pre booking daytime use permits during the pandemic to increase people's access to outdoor spaces. The provincial government stated that this move is also to prevent people from discovering that the park is already full when they drive to it.

Residents can use the same booking system to book a one-day camping trip online up to five days in advance. As of 2024, the program covers 76 of Ontario's most popular provincial parks.

Uxbridge Urban Provincial Park in Durand District is open to the public on Canada Day, and is the latest day park established by Ontario under the Provincial Parks Act. The provincial government stated in June that the park is still in the early stages of development and currently "no facilities or services are provided on site" with limited parking spaces. However, tourists can access the existing trail network covering over 1300 acres.

The Ministry of Environment stated in a press release that it plans to build 300 new camping sites within provincial parks. It also promises to provide electricity services to over 800 existing campsites.
