Phoenix Song Singing Phoenix Chords, World Premiere of Violin Concerto "Phoenix Dancing"
The highly anticipated "Phoenix Dance" Winter Symphony Concert, featuring a fiery red dress, dancing phoenixes, and enthusiastic applause, was performed brilliantly at the Koerner Hall of the Royal Canadian Academy of Music on the evening of December 2nd. This music feast of passionate collision and fusion of Eastern and Western art is also the world premiere of the violin concerto of the same name, "Phoenix Dance," tailor-made for Chinese violinist Angel Wang.
As the host said, the phoenix symbolizes resilience, rebirth, and hope. This work is a musical representation of the phoenix's rebirth from the ashes, as we all come out of the loss and destruction caused by the pandemic. The spirit of the phoenix gives people the courage, hope, and determination to overcome difficulties.
During the performance, Chinese composer He Bingyi stated in an interview with reporters that "Phoenix Dance" is a violin concerto tailor-made for violinist Angel Wang, and she hopes that this specially created work can present Angel with eternal beauty. She said that although the duration of 'Phoenix Dancing' is about 12 minutes, she prepared for several months to create this work, constantly discussing and modifying it, and even making slight adjustments during rehearsals. I cannot say that this work has been completed until it is very perfect, "said He Bingyi.
Renowned Toronto music critic Zhang Su commented that He Bingyi's modern violin concerto "Phoenix Dance" vividly describes the beautiful myths and legends of ancient China through music. From the beautiful harmony of phoenix song and phoenix chord at the beginning of the music, to the burden of worldly hardships and the blending of water and fire in the middle, to the final self immolation of fragrant wood and rebirth from the ashes. Its musical expression is modern and its content is nationalized, making it a good work that deserves attention.
“演出结束时，手臂几乎和刚接种完疫苗一样，非常酸痛，但终于将这部作品完美呈现给观众，”Angel说。连续三个月来，在教学工作结束后，她以一面镜子和一加仑水为伴每天疯狂练琴直至凌晨一、两点，“就是希望通过自己的不懈努力，力求完美。”
无论是作曲家还是Angel本人以及乐队都认为《凤凰飞舞》是一部难度颇高的现代作品。“五连音、七连音的复杂编排，从一把位跳到十把位，从一把位跳到指板的尽头，这样的跳跃性需要极高的技巧，”Angel说。此外，她还要分析和理解这部新作品在高音上的冲击力和表达力，节奏的变化，速度的变化，特别是作品中的极度加速，“非常具有挑战性。”
《凤凰飞舞》成功的背后是Angel对音乐的执着和艰辛的付出。她希望这部作品能将凤凰永恒之美的正能量传递给全世界的女性朋友，面对困境不要气馁，寻找自己的方向，一定会迎来新的生机。
在曲目的选择上，本届音乐会与历届一样，在高清背投绚丽画面的加持下，继续保持中西交融的特点。在西方经典曲目既有包括交响乐、歌剧选段，芭蕾舞曲，也有令人回味的传统音乐作品。
值得一提的是，Angel在同场演绎中西方最为经典的爱情故事《罗密欧与朱丽叶》和《梁山伯与祝英台》，以此颂扬两种截然不同文化背景之下的爱情故事。
音乐会中的西方经典曲目包括《四季-夏天》中的“暴风雨”，《匈牙利舞曲第5号》，芭蕾舞剧《加亚娜》中的“马刀舞曲”，《乡村骑士》间奏曲，《第40号交响曲》第一乐章，《卡门序曲》等。男高音歌唱家Scott Rumble以意大利名曲《我的太阳》和歌剧《弄臣》中的咏叹调“善变的女人”这场音乐会助阵。
音乐会中还演奏了多首中国经典乐曲，包括小提琴版的《赛马》，以及耳熟能详的中国传统民歌《茉莉花》、《四季歌》等，借此表达对家乡故土、自然景色和美好生活的眷恋向往之情。正如Angel说，传承中国音乐是海外华人义不容辞的责任。她希望用音乐语言打开了一扇通往中国文化世界的窗口。
Angel Wang是加拿大皇家天使乐团创建人兼艺术总监，自乐团成立以来，她先后成功举办两次天使音乐之旅音乐会“维也纳到北京到好莱坞”和“巴赫-北京-百老汇”，以及“冬之恋-冬季华尔兹交响音乐会”，期间还携乐团参加“相约北京”国际艺术节获得高度好评。
身为小提琴演奏家和皇家音乐学院专业教师，Angel卓越的音乐才华和杰出表现还赢得诸多与之合作音乐家的极力赞赏。她曾先后担任克莱德曼2016-2020年北美巡演首席小提琴，爵士乐女王小野丽莎北美巡演首席小提琴，以及受邀参加世界著名摇滚乐队—老鹰乐队“加州旅馆”2022北美巡演。
身兼小提琴演奏家和乐团艺术总监的双重身份，Angel可谓事无巨细，一方面努力追求音乐的完美表达，将激情注入每一次演奏，另一方面注重每一个细节，致力于打造独特而卓越的音乐体验。“每次上台都是未知数，因为每场两个大的协奏曲，任何环节都可能出错，自己承受的压力非常之大，”她说。
这种全方位的投入和责任感源于Angel对音乐的热爱和对艺术追求的执着。在她个人不断进步的同时也带动了乐团的成长。更加可喜的是，现场吸引了许多西人音乐爱好者和本地主流媒体和机构的关注。很多西人朋友通过Angel的音乐表现，通过音符的婉转和琴弦的挑动，感受到中国音乐的深邃和独特之美。
《凤凰飞舞》冬季交响音乐会的完美落幕只是一个休止符。Angel向记者透露说，皇家天使交响乐团的下一个目标是在大多伦多及周边多个城市的巡演，希望这一愿望最快能在明年展开。此外，《凤凰飞舞》和《梁祝》等作品还将录音灌制成CD，并会在各大平台发行。
“整个乐团去录音棚，那将是另外一个大工程！”她正期待这一新的挑战。
