It seems that the venue is not only crucial, but also extremely difficult. I must take the initiative to attack.
I think a venue like Duozi Office is still good, you can continue to look for it. After thinking about it, there are many places like this. The Huazi Office also has a large activity venue that can be contacted. I have participated in events at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and MaRS, and the venue was very beautiful and suitable for use as a competition venue. I also think the lobby of Toronto City Hall is very spacious and bright, and if we can play there, the impact will be very significant. So I sent them email consultations one by one.
At the same time, I think some hotels in the Greater Toronto Area are also worth considering. I have selected a few that are more suitable and sent an email to inquire. There are mainly: Hilton Garden Inn Toronto/Vaughan Hotel in Toronto, Delta Hotel Toronto in downtown Toronto, Pan Pacific Toronto in North York, Sheraton Parkway Toronto North Hotel&Suites in Richmond, Hilton Toronto/Markham Suites Conference Centre&Spa in Markham, Courtyard Toronto Northeast/Markham,Delta Hotels Toronto Markham | Marriott Bonvoy, And Monte Carlo Inn Markham, the Hilton Toronto Airport Hotel&Suites located near the airport. I think there is always one place that suits us among so many places.
Sheraton in Richmond quickly replied, but unfortunately the rent is $6000 per day plus tax. Wanjin's Hilton replied a week later that the rent was $18000 per day plus tax, which surprised me. Mars and the Toronto Convention Center have also replied that their events are fully booked and they cannot accommodate our competition. Hilton from Wangshi and Monte Carlo from Wanjin said that there is no such large venue. The Toronto city government has not responded to me. Fortunately, Courteyard and Delta in Wanjin, as well as Pan Pacific in North York, are more active and the rent is relatively low. So I made an appointment with them and went to see it with Andy.
We went to Pan Pacific first. This hotel is relatively large, with convenient transportation and a large restaurant that can serve as a venue for competitions. The discounted price offered to us is $8000 plus tax for three days, which is very tempting. Unfortunately, we have to dine at the hotel. After looking at the menu, the cheapest one costs over $50, plus service fees and taxes, which is beyond our affordability.
Then we went to the Courtyard at the intersection of Steeles and Woodbine. The transportation here is also very convenient. The venue is in the basement, slightly smaller, but if needed, they can provide us with a small hall across the aisle. The rent is $1600 per day plus tax. The same requirement is to dine in a hotel at a price comparable to Pan Pacific.
At this point, we have a rough idea that hotels require us to dine inside, as stipulated in the contract with the union. However, we still decided to visit the third hotel, Delta at the intersection of Highway 7 and 404. The venue here is very bright, but a bit narrow and small. It is indeed necessary to dine at the hotel. Additionally, the hotel is concerned about fire safety issues and has requested to confirm with the fire department before notifying us. Two days later, I did receive a notification stating that the fire department did not agree.
We also visited three hotel rooms, all of which were very good, clean, bright, and tidy. But obviously, we can't afford the food inside. The personnel in charge of reception were also very enthusiastic. Andy also added contact information with several beautiful female waitresses at the front desk, I don't know if they have contacted each other in the future.
I feel a bit disappointed here because all hotels require dining inside, and hotel competitions are probably impossible.
We are still waiting for replies from two hotels, one is Delta in the city center and the other is Hilton near the airport.
I hope there are surprises waiting for me there.
