Ontario election day is experiencing snowstorms! Toronto issues winter travel warning

The Canadian Department of Environment has issued a winter weather travel warning, warning that heavy snow will occur in the Toronto area this morning.

The Ministry of Environment stated that with heavy snow covering the area, visibility may decrease during the morning rush hour, affecting driving safety.

The weather warning states: "Expected snowfall is between 2 and 5 centimeters, but the road surface may melt and heavy snow may suddenly reduce visibility.

Remind drivers to adjust their driving style due to weather changes:

If visibility decreases, please slow down, pay attention to the taillights of the vehicles ahead, and be ready to stop at any time.

It is expected that the snowfall will gradually weaken before noon, but there may still be rainfall or sporadic snowfall during the day. The highest temperature expected in Toronto on Thursday is 4 ° C.

Snowfall may affect Ontario voters' voting

This snowfall coincides with Ontario voters voting today, marking the first winter election held in the province in over 100 years.

John Shields, an honorary professor in the Department of Politics and Public Administration at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), previously stated in an interview with CP24 that adverse weather conditions may affect voter turnout.

Shields said, "Walking on the sidewalk has become more difficult. This means that only highly motivated voters will insist on going to the polling station. Those who lack the motivation to vote may choose to give up because of this, especially voters who do not have strong opinions about leaders

The Toronto City Government has stated that ensuring access around polling stations is a priority for current snow removal efforts.

Shane Gerard, Senior Communications Coordinator for the City of Toronto, recently stated in an email that "staff are inspecting the area around polling stations and making it a priority for cleanup efforts.

In order to complete the snow removal work as soon as possible, the municipal government will mobilize all available cleaning teams, including municipal road maintenance teams, winter maintenance contractors, and staff from the park and leisure department, and will continue to monitor these areas throughout the voting period to ensure smooth voting for voters.
