The Embassy of China in Canada held a reception for Chinese and overseas Chinese during the 2025 Spring Festival under the theme of "Warm Welcoming Spring and Celebrating the Chinese New Year Together"
On January 23rd, the Chinese Embassy in Canada held a grand reception for the 2025 Chinese New Year, titled "Warm Welcoming Spring and Celebrating the Chinese New Year Together". The event attracted more than 200 people, including former Canadian Senator Hu Zixiu, Congressman Jiang Zhenyu, Ye Jiali, as well as representatives from overseas Chinese, Chinese institutions, and media.
Ambassador Wang Di's speech: Looking ahead to the future and deepening cooperation
In his speech, Ambassador Wang Dy introduced the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee and reviewed the brilliant achievements of Chinese path to modernization in the past year. He affirmed the important contributions made by Chinese and overseas Chinese in Canada to promote the development of China Canada relations, and encouraged them to continue to play a bridging role and actively promote exchanges and cooperation between China and Canada.
The ambassador stated that as an important engine leading global economic growth, China is willing to share development opportunities with countries including Canada and inject strong impetus into the world economic recovery. He emphasized that 2025 marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Canada, as well as the 20th anniversary of the upgrading of bilateral relations to a strategic partnership. He hopes that both sides will work together to promote bilateral relations to a new level at a new historical starting point.
Hu Zixiu's speech: Looking forward to cooperation and deepening friendship
In his speech, Hu Zixiu, a former federal senator, expressed his expectation for Canada China relations and hoped that the two countries would deepen friendly cooperation in the new year and bring more benefits to the two peoples. He stated that over the past 55 years, based on the principles of mutual respect, equality, and mutual benefit, Canada and China have made significant progress in various fields such as economy, trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges, becoming an important driving force for promoting common development.
He specifically mentioned that in November 2024, Canada sent its largest delegation in history to participate in the 7th China International Import Expo held in Shanghai, with nearly a hundred Canadian companies exhibiting in various fields such as consumer goods and medical devices. This fully demonstrates the vitality and potential of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. In addition, the resumption of flights has further promoted personnel and economic exchanges between the two countries.
The reception that evening was held in a warm and cozy atmosphere. The rich and colorful cultural performances brought by embassy staff and overseas Chinese in Canada won rounds of applause from the audience on site. Although it was cold outside, the venue was warm and full of New Year's atmosphere.
This year marks the first time Ambassador Wang Di and his wife have spent the Spring Festival in Canada. The on-site guests specially sent New Year's greetings to Ambassador Wang and his wife, hoping that they would have a healthy, happy, and fulfilling Lunar New Year in Canada.
