Community gathers at vibrant shopping mall to celebrate the Year of the Snake. Scarborough North City Councilor Mai Zhimou's "Golden Snake Sending Blessings and Celebrating the New Year"

Jamaal Myers, the North District Councilor and TTC Bus Authority Chairman of Scarborough, Toronto, held a lively Lunar New Year celebration on February 4th at Woodside Square, a vibrant shopping mall. The event brought together residents, social elites, and the 42nd police station to participate in entertainment, parent-child, and traditional celebrations to celebrate the Lunar New Year.


The event kicked off with the finishing touch ceremony of the Golden Lion, symbolizing prosperity and good luck. Councilor Mak first delivered a speech: "This celebration is an opportunity for everyone to gather, reflect on and embrace the rich cultural traditions, and is also a characteristic of this region. I would like to thank our community partners and sponsors for making this event a success. Their support ensures that we continue to bring inclusive and meaningful celebrations to the community


Toronto Mayor Zou Zhihui, Deputy Mayor, and 42nd Police Chief and other guests also delivered speeches.


The attendees enjoyed a variety of performances, including the traditional Chinese orchestra of the Silver Star Art Troupe, tea ceremony demonstrations by the Multicultural Tea Association, singing and dancing Tai Chi performances with love and charm, and handicraft workshops hosted by the Anhu Cultural Association, allowing families to celebrate the Lunar New Year.


There is also a lucky draw event on site, with prizes such as sports cameras and thermos bottles gifted by iTalkBB, tea gift boxes from the Multicultural Tea Association, and vouchers for luxury banquets.
