On January 31, 2025, the third day of the Lunar New Year, the Binton Chinese Business Association (BCBA) and Binton Mayor Patrick Brown (Peng Jianbang) jointly held a Lunar New Year reception at the Binton City Hall. Mayor Peng Jianbang, Vice Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Toronto Bian Zhouzhou, Consul Jiang Sheng, as well as several city councilors, community leaders, representatives of various ethnic groups, and over 300 citizens attended the event to celebrate the Lunar New Year.

At the beginning of the event, the Mayor of Binton, Peng Jianbang, and the city councilors greeted the guests in Chinese and sent their New Year's greetings. Mayor Peng Jianbang expressed in his speech that he is very pleased to celebrate this important traditional festival with the East Asian and Southeast Asian communities. He highly praised the outstanding contributions of the Binton City Chinese Chamber of Commerce to the local economic and social development and multicultural construction, and reviewed his three visits to China, expressing his expectations for another visit to China. Vice Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Toronto, Bian Zhouzhou, extended sincere New Year greetings to friends from all walks of life in Binton City in his speech. He pointed out that in the past year, China has overcome complex internal and external environmental challenges, achieved a growth of 5% in Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and maintained its second largest economy in the world. Vice Consul General Bian stressed that the Consulate General is willing to work with the city of Benton to further promote exchanges and cooperation between China and the local people in various fields and create more tangible benefits for the two peoples. He also invited people from all walks of life to visit China, seize opportunities, and achieve broader mutual benefit and win-win results.

In his speech, Ivan Hung, President of the Binton Chinese Chamber of Commerce, stated that Binton is one of the fastest-growing major cities in Canada, with a population growth of approximately 15% over the past four years. It has now surpassed Mississauga and become the third largest city in Ontario. President Hong specifically mentioned that this year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Canada and China, as well as the 20th anniversary of the strategic partnership between the two countries. He stressed that win-win cooperation is the core of bilateral relations. Only through frank cooperation and complementary advantages can we achieve sustainable economic development and ultimately benefit the two peoples.
Director Hong also reviewed the grand occasion of the Canadian delegation's participation in the Shanghai China International Import Expo in November last year, pointing out that this was the largest exhibition group in Canadian history, with nearly a hundred Canadian companies bringing high-quality products into the Chinese market. He firmly believes that as long as the citizens of Binton work together to attract high-quality enterprises to settle locally and promote local enterprises to enter the international market, Binton will become one of the most important and valuable cities in Canada.
