T-Mobile collaborates with Starlink! Connect your phone directly to the satellite and try it for free in North America

During last night's Super Bowl, T-Mobile and Starlink, a subsidiary of SpaceX, jointly released an advertisement announcing a new satellite direct connection service testing plan. This plan allows eligible North American mobile phone users to try Starlink's direct connection service for free for the next four months, regardless of their original carrier.

Trial Plan Details

According to T-Mobile's official statement, the service is currently in the testing phase and users can register online to participate. During the testing period, users can use the SMS function supported by Starlink satellite, while data and voice services will be launched later. The testing period will continue until July 2025, during which all participants can use the service for free.

After the trial period ends, Starlink's mobile direct connection service will first be included in T-Mobile's Go5G Next premium package, and subscribers can continue to use this feature. In addition, this service can also be added to other T-Mobile packages for an additional monthly fee of $15.

Scope and conditions of application

It is reported that this service is not limited to T-Mobile users, eligible North American smartphone users can register to participate in the test even if they use other carriers such as Verizon and AT&T. The premise is that its device supports eSIM function in order to access the Starlink network.

The significance of Starlink mobile direct connection

The launch of this project marks the further popularization of satellite communication technology, providing more reliable mobile communication support for users in remote areas. The collaboration between T-Mobile and SpaceX is expected to drive deep integration of satellite ground networks in the future.
