Wu Wanjing, Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Toronto (HKETO), attended the Lunar New Year dinners held by different branches of the Hong Kong Canada Chamber of Commerce in various parts of Canada to celebrate the Year of the Snake and promote Hong Kong's business advantages, economic strengths, and its position as a global financial center.
On February 5th, Wu Wanjing attended the Lunar New Year Gala hosted by the Hong Kong Canada Chamber of Commerce Montreal Branch and introduced the latest developments in Hong Kong to the attendees. Hong Kong is the world's freest economy and the third largest international financial center, and has climbed to fifth place in the global competitiveness ranking. Its business data has also broken records again. Currently, Hong Kong has 1.5 million local companies and 15000 registered non Hong Kong companies, achieving remarkable success.
Wu Wanjing said, "Foreign confidence in investing in Hong Kong continues to increase. Last year, Invest Hong Kong assisted a record 539 overseas and mainland enterprises in establishing or expanding their businesses in Hong Kong, an increase of 41% compared to 2023

She further pointed out that the International Monetary Fund reaffirmed Hong Kong's resilience and stability, recognizing its robust financial system and institutional advantages. Hong Kong, as a 'super contact' and 'super value-added person', will continue to connect traditional and emerging markets, creating vast opportunities for global commerce, including Canadian companies.
Wu Wanjing continued that there are currently three airlines providing air services between Canada and Hong Kong. With the upcoming opening of Kai Tak Sports Park, she welcomes Canadian business to visit Hong Kong and explore unlimited opportunities and diverse cultures.
On the West Coast, Wu Wanjing attended the Chinese New Year dinner hosted by the Vancouver and Calgary branches of the Hong Kong Canada Chamber of Commerce on February 6th and 7th respectively, and promoted Hong Kong's advantages as a global business hub and abundant opportunities. These three dinners attracted over 1000 guests, including high-level representatives from political, business, academic, and cultural sectors.

During her visit to Calgary, Wu Wanjing attended a student reception on February 7th and presented awards to the winners of the 2005 Hong Kong Canada Business Association Calgary Scholarship. This scholarship is sponsored by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office and awarded to students studying at the University or institution of Calgary who have a strong interest in Hong Kong and a clear intention to exchange or work in Hong Kong. This year, four students from the University of Calgary and Valley College were awarded this scholarship.
The Toronto and Edmonton branches of the Hong Kong Canada Chamber of Commerce will hold Lunar New Year dinners on February 15th and 20th respectively. The Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office and/or representatives will attend the event to share the prosperity and joy of the new year with various sectors.
